Event identities for an education NGO
2023–2024
inEDU

Posters, badges and certificates for an education NGO.

inEDU (Asociația „Inițiativă în Educație”) runs programmes that take learning out of the textbook: an international conference on teaching with space science, a month-long festival, meetings with writers, and teacher training built around museums and local heritage. In 2023 and 2024, as part of the Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture programme, we designed the visual identity for these events and the printed and digital pieces that carried it. Below they are grouped by project and year.

Teach with Space · 2023

An international conference held on 5 October 2023 at the West University of Timișoara, during World Space Week. The key visual is a dark planet in a warm orange-to-blue gradient, with heavy stacked type that can be read across a lecture hall. We carried it onto social media covers, a booklet, reserved-seat cards and a workshop poster for the university planetarium. Two earlier directions, pale spheres in orbit and a painterly night scene, were set aside for the conference and later used for the festival.

Festivalul Spațiul de Cultură · 2023

A month of events on science, culture and education, from 4 to 30 October 2023, opened by the conference. Its key visual is a space scape: two small figures on a bench on a moonlit plain, looking into a gilded frame that opens onto a stormy, glowing sky. The image is at its tallest on the roll-up and at its darkest on the badges and volunteer certificates. The pale orbiting spheres were used for the festival posters that had to carry the most partner logos.

Both events also needed badges for volunteers, photographers and guests, certificates and diplomas in Romanian and English, roll-ups, slates for partner videos and a photobooth frame.

Each piece had room for a long band of partner and funder logos without crowding the artwork. The badges and certificates were built as templates, so names and numbers could be filled in quickly without breaking the layout.

Francesc Miralles in Timișoara · 2023

In November 2023 inEDU brought the Spanish writer Francesc Miralles to Timișoara for his first meetings with readers in the city: talks for children and an evening dialogue about Japanese secrets for a long and happy life. The posters borrow from Japanese ink painting, with cherry blossom, red maple and a low red sun. Each event has its own image, and the red accent and framed portrait keep them together as a series.

Make a Wish upon a Star · 2023

A celebration on 19 December 2023 to close the year and look back at its projects. The invitation puts a gold-foil star over a teal and gold nebula.

FORMA inEDU · 2024

From February to June 2024, FORMA inEDU trained teachers to bring cultural resources and art into school. Its identity uses glossy, iridescent 3D forms twisting around a classic serif wordmark on a deep indigo field, and runs from the roll-up to the social media covers.

Muzeul – spațiu de învățare, a training course held from 14 to 19 March 2024, has a flat, illustrated look in navy and coral: a museum façade, an eye, a fossil skull, a rocket, an audio guide. The illustration is cut into tiles that rearrange for the poster, the covers and the diplomas.

Crâmpeie identitare – farmecul vieții șvăbești, an exhibition about Swabian life in the Banat (14 to 28 March 2024), uses a single photograph instead: a still life of an oil lamp, porcelain and a pocket watch on red velvet, set with an elegant serif on the poster and the invitation.

DiverCity · 2024

An autumn programme on cultural diversity in Timișoara, from 19 September to 29 November 2024. The main poster is a halftone street scene washed in purple and blue. A second uses a striped DC mark that shifts like a lenticular print, and DiverCity Talks has a vintage microphone.
